A Trip Around Perm

This afternoon I drove around Perm with one of the guys from work. This is the Art Museum in downtown near the river. It costs 210 Rubles for foreigners, 50 Rubles for locals. On a warmer day when I have more time I plan to go.
Looking out across the Kama River. On the left is the Kama Bridge. It is over a kilometer long.
The obligatory picture of Lenin. Here I am in my Russian hat trying to fit in. Boy is it cold. And what do I find right beside the monument? Locos Gringos!! How about a beer and some tacos?
The Local headquarters of the KGB. Called the 'Death Castle'. We got stopped by the police as we were driving by and they checked out our documents. This is the second time this has happened to me. I must look suspicious. Here is Mother Russia with soldiers and workers.

This is the government offices of the District of Perm.

Southern Fried Chicken

In Russian it actually says, "american Chicken". They seemed to accept pointing with good humor, I had the "Superman" lunch.
It was as good as anything I have ever gotten at KFC.
These are the least expensive local beers, all good. I like the Number 3 the best.

Touring Perm

The hotel where I am staying.
Apartments across the street.
I think this is some sort of sports center. I see people with gym bags and sports equipment bags going in and out. The copper brown car is the local Chevrolet. Looks like the Aveo.
An ice sculpture in front.
Another one.

How Long will This Go On?

The high temperature yesterday was -5. How long can this Global Warming go on? I am going to have to go to Siberia to get warm if this keeps up.

Artisan Bread Update

A while ago, I blogged about Kate's Artisan Bread. As some of you know, I am a big copy cat and like to do what others do but better. Here is my batch of dough.
Rising on a cookie sheet.

After I baked them. They are not as pretty as Kate's but they were just as good.

Sunday Update

Last fall I took a trip to U-Pull Auto Parts to get some parts for my Honda. Here I am digging for the power steering unit down by the rack and pinion.
Gently wiggling it loose. I was not gentle enough with mine, I broke it.
Looks like the right one. I paid $16 plus $4 for entry to get it.
A friend of mine took pity on me when he heard how long I had been working on this project and gave me this headlight to make the work easier. I am very impressed, it really does help to see what you are doing.
Kate and Gerardo helped me put the transmission back in. I paced myself and put in six bolts every day.
Here is the Honda parked out in the driveway. It still needs some work (bumpers, door latch, and underbody sheetmetal) but the big stuff is done. I drove it around the block and it seemed to run OK.Covered up and for the rest of the winter. Boy am I happy to have it out of my garage!

Doors for Kate.

The original doors in Kate's house were hollow core panels. The new doors are six panel solid wood doors. I bought five of them for Kate's birthday last year but have just gotten around to installing them. Another job off the list.
We had some "Artisan" bread for dinner that night.
