Window Project Part II

My friend, Pete, getting started removing the old windows. Replacing the sheathing and insulation. Bob and Pete trying to figure out what to do next.

Taking a break during the rain.
Finishing up the first window. It was the hardest one because the sheathing was rotted out beneath the window. Finishing the second window. I have had a couple of contractors give me estimates for a new garage and as a test question I asked one of them how he installed windows on the second story of a house. He said that he always put them in from the inside and that is what we did. It worked out slick. Putting the windows in from the inside. We tilted the window and putting the bottom through the hole first we then tilted it up and slid it into the opening. The people on the outside could then put in the screws. Warren and I checking to make sure the window was square. I thought the job would take a couple of hours, here is the crew five hours later!! Ready for the trim.

Window Project

I have started to replace the windows in the upper two bedrooms where the sills have rotted out. Walter gave me a couple of brackets for making ladders into scaffolding. The first ladder with a bracket.
Two ladders with some boards on them. It isn't level because the ladders are different. I think it will be OK anyway. The next job will be to remove the trim.
Removing the trim from around the windows.
You can see that at the bottom of the windows moisture damage has occured in the sheathing. There is, of course, no wrap or water barrier on the house.

Oh What a Week!

I had a number of adventures this week. The first was that I was working on my driveway and left my Astro parked on the street and got a $24 parking ticket in front of my house! What a bummer. Then I was cleaning up in the kitchen and knocked my camera off the island right into the Kasin's water dish!
Kasin resting in the heat. I thought he was dead, no such luck.
Gerardo listening to my camera story. To make a long story short, after my camera dried out it started working again.

Playing dominoes before Paella dinner. Aunt Silvia and Liz. Unknown person's elbow.

The Paella was very good, when Patricia and Aunt Silvia make it, it is always very good.

Kasin looking for something to eat. No Paella for him.

Truck Hunting

This is the Minnesota River, the area around it is famous for old truck hunting. This is what good truck hunting territory looks like.
You have to keep a sharp eye out for the wild ones beside the road. They are all over, peeking their noses out of the underbrush and weeds. And here is one sitting beside a barn with some paint still left on it. QXLD3 motor and all. I wonder what it will take to bag this one?The cab brings back many memories of my youth.
Here is a trolley car that escaped from Minneapolis many years ago.

Fence Update, Removing The Old Fence.

Liz and I pulling up the fence posts using my floor jack. We wrapped a chain around the post and the top of the jack, Liz would hold it with the pipe wrench, and I would jack up the jack. The posts came right out.
The end posts were set in concrete and we cut them off with the grinder.
Liz, Kate, and Gerardo cleaning up, the job needs to sit a while for the boards to dry and shrink, then we will put in two more screws per board and stain it. What a job.

4TH of July Picnic.

This year we decided to have a rib roast on the grill. Here it is all tied up and 'rubbed'.
The other side.

I cooked the baked beans beside it on the grill. That way I did no cooking inside the house.
Enjoying the warmth of the day. Liz, Aunt Silvia, Gerardo, Patrica, and Kate. (I ran the air conditioner inside the house.) Dinner was rib roast, potato salad, baked beans, sweet corn, and home made ice cream for dessert. Liz, Fred, Kate, Patrica, and Aunt Silvia.
