Morning Walk in Perm

This morning I went for a walk, along with one of the other engineers, down Mira Street looking at apartment buildings. It is interesting how many different styles there are in Perm.
Very modern one.
Nice decoration on the outside.
An older, possibly 60's style with the avocado color.
A round building with shops and stores on the ground floor. It is completely circular so I wonder if it has a courtyard in the center.
The building on the right is a school (University) of some type. Behind is a nice looking building.
One of the apartments along where the hotel is.

Of course being engineers, we were able to immediately identify the hardware store.

As you can tell, it says "Hardware".

Checking out the tools. These are called, "bits" as in, "Do you have all the 'bits' necessary for that?"

Perm

The weather in Perm has been quite mild in the afternoon but we still see some snow in the morning. The bus was late this morning and I was able to take some pictures on the street. The sign says, "Supermarket."
View up toward the shopping center.
View toward the bank where I was going to take pictures.

Back In Perm

It has been a very busy week and I am just starting to get over my jet lag and have come down with a sore throat and bad cough. I will survive, but you must excuse some of the repeated pictures. The uniform of the day, Yulia, the young woman in the middle is, of course, the SME (Subject Matter Expert) and the two policeman looking guys are the translators, or did I get that backwards?
A nice picture of the Perm Aircraft Engine Factory. I wanted to get pictures of the engine test cells but was ignored.
The condos for the workers in the Aircraft Factory. These units were built in the 1930's and have been continuously updated. They are upper middle class in price range.
On tour with my two "translators" or are they the SME's from the factory?
Howitzer from the Artillery Museum.
Close-up of the loading area.
Just what I need for my collection.

Spring in Minnesota

The weather warmed up nicely in Minnesota the week I was home. I felt like I was home on spring vacation.A little snow left but not much. It was reported, but I didn't see it this year (I have in the past) that the little kids down the street were playing barefoot.
The only thing wrong with this time of the year is that everything is brown.
Kate and Gerardo out riding their bikes.

Is This Global Warming?

This is what I woke up to this morning. I think I will go back to Perm to warm up. (For my metric friends, this is -24 degrees C.)

Interm Report from Perm

I am home on short hiatus from my everyday life in Perm so I have not had any time to organize my pictures and blog. As an interim solution, I will blog some of my tour of the city till I have time to do something more organized.
The Opera House in Perm.
Locomotive from the Ural Mountain Railroad, not to be confused with the Trans Siberian Railway which also goes through Perm.
Restored Russian Orthodox Church.
The Artillery Museum. More on this later.
