Road Trip Update

I made a road trip to Ohio to see my brother, Walter, and my sister, Martha. Liz went along to keep me company. It was an adventure.
The first night we stayed with Ed and Alicia in Battle Creek. Alicia had to go to work but this is a picture of Ed, Fred, Liz, and Glenda, Glenda was a friend who was also visiting.
I drove out to the Michigan house and saw Maria Chapin working in her yard and we stopped and talked with her for a few minutes. She is doing fine.

Fencing on Father's Day.

We started putting in Kate's fence this weekend.

Weekend Update

We were to put in Kate's fence this weekend but someone didn't follow up with "Miss Digg" and we had to work on an alternate project.


Here are all the lines laid out waiting for the post hole digger.

The alternate project was to finish the border around the front of the house. There was a garden here originally but we removed it because it was too much work to keep up. I like the grass a lot better.

Wire Walker Update

I finally got a picture of the winning wire walker. In the past few months many people have asked me about wire walkers and why I was working on them. They were a science project at one of the High Schools in the area and I acted as a consultant to some of the parents. "How is that fair?" you say, some children not only have their parents help them but their parents get an outsider to help.

The secret can be found in Freakonomics by Steven Levit. Using eight pair regression analysis on 30,000 Chicago area high school students, he found that the performance of students was best predicted not by what the parents (or schools) did, but who they were. On Average, children who's mothers were over thirty when they were born did better than children whose mothers were under twenty. Children of parents who believed in the value of education did better than children of parents who did not believe in education. Children of parents who read, did better than children with parents who didn't read. Beating your children did not make any difference. Having books in the home didn't matter (unless the parents read them). Taking your kids to the zoo (museum) didn't matter either. Isn't that interesting?

Garage Clean-up


I am happy to report that I have finally gotten the Saturn out of the garage. I wish I could report that it was done but I can't, it still has a bad squeal in the serpentine belt system when it is started.

The garage is all cleaned up and the floor washed so that is a good thing. I still have to sort my tools and put them away but one thing at a time. My next project is going to be to put two new windows in the house.

Road Trip

For those who wonder where I have been lately, I lost my cable to hook my camera to the computer. How irresponsible. I refused to pay $29.00 for a new one.

I ended up ordering a new one from Amazon, $.50 plus $4.99 shipping and handling.



In other news I went on a "Road Trip" for work and ended up visiting Uncle Walter and Bob and Corrine. I drove 2000 miles.

Fred and Walter in front of Gerardo's Saturn. I got 32.12 miles per gallon on the trip.
