Weekend Auto Work

This was a weekend of car work, both big and little. Kathleen's Cavalier has returned with a bad head gasket. The temperature got up into the 30's and I was able to get the garage cleaned up.
Then Warren brought the Cavalier over and we got started. Three hours later this is what we have. Lots of connections. We fooled around with the power steering pump for about an hour till we figured out that the bolts that hold it on go through the drive pulley. General Motors considerately leaves a hole in the pulley through which one can insert a socket.
Next weekend we will put it back together.
On the Little Wheel front, I helped one of the guys I work with turn the wheels for his son's Pinewood Derby Car. No pictures, I missed an opportunity. They were really cute kids.

Comments:
so where exactly was the head leaking?

Hello Walter,

The head gasket appeared to have disintegrated on the upper right had corner of the block as viewed in the picture. If you blow up the picture by the heater hose clip you can see that the block surface is discolored, that is where it was leaking. We are going to buy a new gasket and put it back together. Any recommendations on sealant to put on the gasket?

How did the Pinewood Derby car perform with its finely turned wheels?
