Friends

Our friends, Andrew and Carrie, sent us new pictures of their daughter, Lauren. We have not seen them in almost a year and she has really grown.

First Day of Spring

While we still have snow on the ground, it is starting to look a lot more like Springtime. Here is a picture of a Cardinal (I know, its a winter bird).

I made this picture by cropping the larger one. I think it came out pretty well.

Friends stopped at our house this week. We always enjoy seeing them as they travel through Minnesota. Dick was Kate's basketball coach many years ago in Battle Creek. Sharon has family in the area.

Kathleen wanted to check out the Open Book store in downtown Minneapolis to see an art display they are going to have. These are some pictures from our exploratory trip. Next week we will know where to go for the exposition.

We saw papermaking equipment and old printing presses on this week's tour. It was very interesting. We will publish the results of the real tour next week.

Nope, No Spring Yet

It isn't quite spring yet. We had what is known in Minnesota as a tournament snowstorm. We got enough so it even could be called 'blowable' snow. The snow plow ran down our street sign but other than that it was not too bad.

Gerardo Turns 33 Years Old

Gerardo celebrated his 33rd birthday. Kathleen and Fred treated everyone to an excellent meal at Big Bowl on Friday night. Fritz finished his qualifying exams and was home visiting us for the weekend. It was nice to have the whole family together.

Lettuce wraps are one of our favorites. When we were done it was back to Kate and Gerardo's apartment for cake and ice cream.

Gerardo's birthday party, everyone got lots of presents. Kate rented the movie theater at their apartment and we saw a movie on Saturday night.

Fred and Fritz made English Sponge Pudding in the pressure cooker. Fritz was familiar on how it was suppose to turn out and he said it was OK. The day will come when they will blow themselves up.

YiYu got a new toy for Gerardo's birthday. Here she and Kate are playing with it. The cat, Kazin, is looking on in horror.

Spring Yet?

All the ice houses had to be off the lake this week, and are hidden in people's backyards. The lake is quite bare without them.

Kathleen bought some daffodils at the market and they make a nice decoration for the family room.

Still blooming a week later.

Most of the snow has melted and early spring flowers are starting to poke up shoots.

Out by the road you can see the VOLE damage in the lawn. Each year the voles, little mice like creatures that live in the 'wetland' move up and live under the snowdrifts. they enjoy eating the carefully grown grass.
