The Ventura Train 8/12/2005

Last week on our adventure we saw the Light Rail Train and thought it would be a good Friday adventure. This week we had a reason to go to IKEA and the Mall of America so we decided to ride the train and shop all in one day. The train is a legacy of the Jesse Ventura's adminstration and one of the highlights of Minneapolis.

The reason is that we wanted to get a 'housewarming' gift for Kate and Gerardo as they are moving into their own apartment at the end of this month. More to come on the particulars.

We got on the Light Rail at the Government Center and paid $9.50 for parking. This wasn't to save money as much as experience the trip. To do it again we would park at the Metrodome for $3.00 all day and take the train from there.

Kathleen waiting for the train.

A view of the inside of the light rail. There are bike racks and we had an eclectic crowd of people riding with us. A lot of people said that no one would ride the rail but on both trips there was standing room only. It was not a surprise on the way home because it was during rush hour but in the middle of the morning it was surprising how many people were on the train.

Here we are at The Mall of America. I had some concerns for Kathleen's foot but she held up like a trooper.

Here we are at IKEA. We walked through all the showrooms looking at all the displays. Kathleen asked an associate about an item she saw in the catalog and was able to tell him the page number it was on, he looked it up and told us where to find it.

Fred with the packages. Yes we did get Kate and Gerardo something.
